VIDEOS & DVDS
There have been many versions of Thriller released around the world over the decades. In 2020, the series is also available to stream on Amazon Prime, and can be viewed for free in the USA and Canada on Tubitv.
For much greater detail about the various releases, consult Martin Marshall's book A THRILLER IN EVERY CORNER, available from Lulu Books.
UNITED KINGDOM
Four episodes were released on video in the UK in 1993:
A COFFIN FOR THE BRIDE / ONE DEADLY
OWNER SOMEONE AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS /
AN ECHO OF THERESA |
Both are now deleted. All four episodes should have been in original ATV format but by mistake the UK ITC movie version of "One Deadly Owner" was used. Two further tapes were scheduled for 1994: "Screamer"/"Sign It Death" and "Where The Action Is"/"I'm The Girl He Wants To Kill" ; however this release was cancelled.
Ten years later in September 2004, Granada Ventures released the first ten episodes on dvd in a four disc box set. This release is now deleted. This set is unique in that it is region free and features English subtitles.
A complete box set of Thriller was released in the UK on July 18th, 2005.
UNITED STATES / CANADA
A good many episodes were released on video in 1986/87 (catalogue numbers unknown; most however were issued by "THRILLER VIDEO" or KING BEE" with appallingly tacky covers). Unfortunately, all were of fairly poor quality, but are still of interest today because of their inclusion of 2-3 minutes of original scenes not included in the British versions (see The Lost Thriller Scenes). Those that include extra material are listed as "extended".

AUSTRALIA
There were no vhs releases in Australia. Series 1 and 2 (only) were released on a short lived dvd in 2006. A years later a complete box set was issued on Madman Entertainment in a limited edition of 1000 copies. This is easily the most comprehensive version released and contained many extras not found on other versions and can regarded as definitive. Unfortunately it is now out of print.

FEATURE FILMS
Two cinema films written by Clemens bear special note as they are virtually feature length episodes of Thriller.
The first is And Soon The Darkness (1970),
which stars Pamela Franklin and Michelle Dotrice. Two
English girls cycling across France pass through a lonely
stretch of countryside, and stop to rest on the outskirts
of the forest. When they argue, one cycles off in a huff
and the other stays behind where she meets with foul
play. The rest of the film concerns the efforts by the
other girl to find her friend, which lead her inevitably
into danger. This film has been released on Bluray in the UK and also in the US. |
The other film is Blind Terror (1971, AKA See No Evil ), which stars Mia Farrow as a blind girl who travels out to the country to stay with some old friends in a large manor house. She returns one day to find them all murdered, at which point the killer returns searching for his identity bracelet. She is then thrown headlong into a terrifying ordeal, with the killer (who is not seen on screen until the very end) pursuing her relentlessly. This film is currently available on Bluray and DVD (as "See No Evil") in both the US. This also includes the UK cut (Blind Terror) which is slightly different. |
